Olive Avenue,
Long Beach
About the project
This home remodel in Long Beach focused on transforming a dated interior into refined modern living with confident, personality-driven details. The homeowners wanted a layout that supported real-life flow, from cooking to gathering to relaxing, while also elevating the character of the home through curated materials and moody design elements. Appliance upgrades, improved storage solutions, and a more efficient kitchen footprint were central to the renovation goals. Despite bold design moments, the home remains cohesive thanks to three repeating themes: handcrafted textures, brass accents, and an earthy color palette. The result is a home that feels sophisticated yet playful, modern yet soulful, and classic yet confidently personality-driven.
Before Renovation
Highlights
Improved Functionality & Material Cohesion
The electrical system received a modern overhaul, including dedicated appliance circuits and an updated panel to support new fixtures and equipment. Additional recessed lights, under-cabinet lighting, and decorative pendants transformed the way the home feels lit, shifting it from purely utilitarian to warm, layered, and intentional.
A consistent palette ties the spaces together. Natural oak tones add warmth, porcelain and ceramic tile introduce artisanal texture, and brushed brass details provide a refined vintage note.
Kitchen: Scandinavian Warmth + Soft Minimalism
The kitchen remodel embodies Scandinavian warmth and soft minimalism, defined by clean lines, natural textures, and a serene tonal palette. The fluted natural oak island introduces organic warmth that balances the crisp white cabinetry and bright counters. We selected Celine 4″ x 4″ glossy porcelain tile in white for the backsplash to provide handcrafted texture and a reflective glow that subtly shifts with the light.
Floating shelves add visual lightness, while a full-height backsplash creates vertical continuity and sophistication. Wide-plank flooring extends the space visually and contributes to its calm, modern feel.
The bathroom takes on a bold identity rooted in Eclectic Art Deco flair and Modern Classic elegance, reminiscent of European boutique-hotel design. Cloé 5″ x 5″ glossy ceramic tile in black sets the tone with moody depth, paired with Basalt Nova Noir honed mosaic in the shower niche for a geometric detail. The Kohler Archer three-wall alcove soaking tub offers long-lasting functionality within this statement-making backdrop.
Brass fixtures bring a touch of warm vintage glamour. The star of the room, the Olive Canary wallpaper by Natalie Papier, adds personality and artistry, its botanical pattern echoing the whimsical feel of iconic brands like House of Hackney or Rebecca Atwood. The vanity, a Studio Design Emma 30″, completes the space with modern lines and quiet luxury.
