About the project

Our client is an artist who creates special ceramic pieces, so our goal for this condo bathroom transformation was to create a space that celebrates our unique California culture with a Californian style and aesthetic. At the same time, we wanted to recognize the art world specifically, so we chose fixtures that consisted of a handmade feel.

In terms of colors, we used earthy tones for their ability to always warm up the soul and remain timeless. And to achieve that handmade feel while adding a bit of richness and a sense of luxury, we decided to use brushed gold for all the fixtures.

work process

For this bathroom remodel project, we had a cozy, high-potential area in which to achieve our design goals, but busy tilework on the floors and walls — not by the client’s choice — can make envisioning a completely new space a challenge. For this reason, as we do with all projects, we rendered the client’s new bathroom using a 3D design tool. This meant the client no longer had to imagine. They could see what every countertop, shower, cabinet, and fixture would look like when all the work was complete.

We replaced the mentally-fatiguing tilework on the floor with Angela Harris Inspira 24×24 Matte Porcelain Tile in Light Silver. It turned a showstopping floor into an organic backdrop for the project while maintaining that burst of life the original design was going for. Rather than continue the light silver on the walls, we opted for small Fireclay Tiles in a relaxing grey-green with undertones of slight pale blue, called Salton Sea in the shower, while the walls remained a neutral paint.

For the vanity, we added the free-standing Trossman 72 in. Floor Mount Vanity in White Oak with a single-cut stone top. In the shower-tub combo, the Moen Colinet shower system draws the eyes with its brushed gold, and together with the unique Inspira tiles, delivers that handmade feel sought for this space. For the alcove tub, we placed the KOHLER Underscore 60 in. Bathtub in white. We added the defining touches with a Kingston Brass Millennium faucet on the vanity and George Kovacs LED Wall Sconce in a complementing High Honey Gold.
